Broome County to Waive Tipping Fees at Landfill for Flood Debris

Broome County to Waive Tipping Fees at Landfill for Flood Debris

(BINGHAMTON, NY) On August 14, 2018, Broome County Executive Jason Garnar declared a State of Emergency for Broome County after several municipalities experienced damage from flash flooding.

After surveying the impacted areas, County Executive Garnar issued this Emergency Order for the safety of county residents, to facilitate debris removal and repair damage.

The County Executive has authorized the Broome County Landfill to waive the tipping fees associated with this week’s flood damage.  This waiver is for Broome County residents only.  Commercial/business storm debris tipping fees will not be waived.

Tipping fees for flood related debris will be waived through Wednesday, Aug. 29.

A copy of the Landfill’s residential storm debris waiver form is available on GoBroomeCounty.com. Residents must bring two (2) copies of the form when they bring their flood debris to the landfill.  If the resident contracts with a hauler for roll-off service the hauler must have two (2) copies of the signed form from the residential homeowner when they bring the material to the landfill.

Also on the website is a 2018 Info Sheet with all the details residents need to know such as landfill hours, how materials should be separated and other guidelines.  It also designates the two-week period for the tip fee waiver starting Wednesday, 8/15 through Wednesday, 8/29.

These forms are available online on the Broome County website at www.GoBroomeCounty.com

The county’s Division of Solid Waste has also distributed packets to municipalities and private haulers to provide forms to residents. Forms are also available at the Broome County Landfill. That will provide residents with more than one way to get a form if they do not have access to the Internet or a printer.

Questions can be directed to the Division of Solid Waste at (607) 778-2250.
