Broome County Government Prepares for Strong Storm with Heavy Rain/Gusty Winds 

BINGHAMTON, NYBroome County Executive Jason Garnar reminds residents to be prepared for hazardous weather over the next two days. “Once again, upstate New York and Broome County are expected to be impacted by severe weather. Residents should monitor forecasts closely and be prepared to take action, if needed” Garnar said.

The National Weather Service has indicated that Broome County is predicted to receive 5 inches of rain and is at a moderate risk for Flash Flooding. The county is currently under a Flash Flood Watch. In addition to the rain, high winds are predicted for Monday.

 

Director of Emergency Services, Michael Ponticiello, has been in regular communication with the National Weather Service. “In preparation for the storm Emergency Services will increase 911 center staffing and is coordinating with the Department of Public Works – Highway and the Sheriff’s Office” Ponticiello said.

 

Broome County government is prepared to respond to emergencies that arise from this storm. Residents are urged to say tuned to local media for the latest updates on the storm. Residents are also encouraged to register for New York Alert at www.nyalert.gov, Broome County uses NY-Alert to notify residents during emergencies.
