Broome County Executive Announces New Acting Office for Aging Director


BINGHAMTON, NY –  Broome County Executive Jason Garnar announced today that current Office for Aging (OFA) Director Jamie Kelly will be leaving her position. The County Executive has appointed Lisa Schuhle as the Acting OFA Director.

Kelly will be accepting a position with the New York State Office for People with Developmental Disabilities. She started with the Broome County OFA in January of 2014.


“Jamie Kelly did great work for the seniors of Broome County and we wish her the best going forward,” said Garnar. “Lisa worked side by side with Jamie for almost four years. With Lisa’s experience and being familiar with the position we expect it to be a very smooth transition.”


Schuhle began her career as Activities Director for the Woodland Village on the Green Retirement Home (now known as Brookdale) in Vestal. She started with the Broome County OFA in 1986 as the Field Supervisor for the Foster Grandparent Program, a position she would hold for four years. In 1990 she was named the Coordinator for Health and Wellness where she planned and coordinated wellness programs for seniors in Broome County. She remained there until 2007. From 2007 to 2011 she was the Aging Service Program Coordinator for the Broome County Yesteryears Adult Day Program being responsible for full oversight of two adult day programs. In 2011 she took over as the Aging Services Program Coordinator in the Information and Assistance Unit of the Broome County OFA, a position she held until now.


“I am excited to be given this opportunity,” said Schuhle. “Broome County Office for Aging has always had a reputation for being one of the best in the state.  I am looking forward maintaining the high standards the agency is known for in serving the older adults in this community. “


Kelly will remain in the position until October 18th, 2017. The interview process for a permanent Director has already begun.
