Environmental Photography Show On Display At Public Library

     BINGHAMTON, NY - Winning and honorable mention photographs from the Broome County Environmental Management Council’s (EMC) 2006 Joyce K. L. Smith Environmental Photography Show & Competition, will be displayed at the Broome County Public Library, 185 Court Street, in downtown Binghamton, from May 3 through June 29, 2006. The public is invited to attend an opening reception and awards ceremony in the second floor exhibit gallery, Wednesday, May 3rd from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Elevators are available and accessible. Library hours are 9:00 am – 8:00 pm, Monday through Thursday, and 9:00 am – 5:00 pm, Fridays and Saturdays.

The EMC received 244 photographs for competition from 91 amateur photographers in the following five (5) categories: Wildlife; Plantlife; Natural Landscape; Cultural Landscape; and People in Action. Competition judges selected one winner and up to five honorable mentions in each category.

Event co-sponsors Garland Gallery, Binghamton; Che Bella Fine Framing, Binghamton, and Silver Image Photographics, Vestal, furnished prizes.

The show portrays the community’s view of Broome County’s natural and cultural environments and the work of the EMC to preserve and enhance them. The show and competition, now in its tenth year honors the late Joyce K.L. Smith, a local political and environmental activist. The Joyce K.L. Smith Memorial Fund was established in 1999 by her family to foster the EMC’s environmental education efforts. Contributions to the Fund are welcome and appreciated.
